McLaren Vale Shiraz

Usual Suspects

Shiraz can often be too big and obvious - too much alcohol, too much oak, too much dead fruit, too much of everything. The Usual Suspects simply isn't like this. It's what McLaren Vale does best - vibrant fruit, complexity, elegance, balance and style. 'Thinking' shiraz that evolves and reveals itself as you progress through the bottle.

2008 Usual Suspects McLaren Vale Shiraz: 4 Stars

“Not as full-bodied as typical McLaren Vale Shiraz, this likeable young wine has a soft aroma that suggests plums, loganberries, earth and sweet spices with an attractive musky, viognier like touch. It's silky and fine in the mouth, with easy-going balance and soft tannins”

2008 Usual Suspects McLaren Vale Shiraz: 90 Points

“Don't take this the wrong way, but this is a 'turn your brain off' kind of wine. Don't think too hard, just sit back and enjoy it. It's pretty, almost floral, with juicy blood-plum flavours, milk chocolate and cedary oak. It's plump, sweet and hugely drinkable. There might be a touch of bitter, dried herbs on the finish but by then you're certain to have been thoroughly seduced. DRINK 2010 - 2012.”

2006 Usual Suspects McLaren Vale Shiraz: 90 points, Top 100 Wines for $20 or Less

“This shiraz if full of sweet, dark grape flavour. Bloody delicious. It tastes of chocolate, raspberries and sweet, dried out grapes, the lot tempered by fine, smooth skinned tannins...”
