Barossa Valley Shiraz
The Protagonist
Barossa Valley Shiraz - Densely flavored, primary fruit driven, with generous use of American oak. Rich, voluptuous shiraz with layers of intense flavour. The Protagonist employs some restraint which gives it a seam of elegance, belying the power of the fruit. It's what we believe the Barossa does best - power with elegance - a style of wine that has become synonymous with Australia and captivated so many around the world.

2008 The Protagonist Barossa Valley Shiraz: 90 Points
“Full-bodied and creamy in texture, this is a big, plummy Shiraz, made complex by hints of mocha and roasted meat. It's long, lush and berry-laden on the finish. Drink now-2015. J.C.”

Hesketh The Protagonist Barossa Valley Shiraz 2006: 94 Points, 5 Glasses
“Has retained excellent hue; another reminder of how good the '06 vintage was, here effortlessly providing shiraz flooded with opulent black fruits, ripe tannins and oak all in perfect balance, an unexpected twist of spice on the aftertaste a bonus.”

Hesketh Protagonist Barossa Shiraz, 2006: 94 Points - WINE OF THE WEEK
“This shiraz is classic Barossa, with savoury bouquet of toasty, earthy characters and background fruit cake, as well as hints of roasting meats. Its mellowness and complexity are due in part to bottle age: four years is a rare bonus these days. Lovely smooth, fleshy palate with excellent texture ad harmony. Oak is there but not over the top. Very appealing drinking now to 10 years.”

“They've sourced some handy material to make this sing in bright regional tune. Attractive plums and spices, tarry regional characters, plenty of weight and richness...”
